Make Machine will be a social network, and even though it’s got a specific purpose (to encourage creative collaboration), one would imagine that most users will spend a lot of their time doing the things they always do on social networks: browsing around, reading friends’ updates, and generally killing time. Lots of sites provide an outlet for people to share what they’re working on and just hang out, like Dribbble and DeviantArt (we’re cringing), but they don’t go the extra step of facilitating collaboration.
It’s worth noting that we want to create a culture of work within the community. We want to celebrate the simple act of working on stuff, even if the stuff isn’t particularly good.
Here’s an important thing: users will be able to tag and classify themselves based on their creative interests and strengths. That means, when you get to looking for people to make stuff with, you can search for people based on those tags—things like illustration, video editing, fiction writing, etc—and invite them to check out your idea.
